Course Overview

A level 4 sports massage practitioner’s role includes planning, providing and evaluating sport massage treatments to seek to correct common patterns of dysfunction, and/or pre-diagnosed injuries, using a range of basic and advanced massage techniques.

The Sports Massage course runs over 10 days, usually one or two days per week, usually at the weekend, and spread out to allow time to study the theoretical knowledge, to complete coursework and to practice practical skills.   Course days run from 9.00-5.00PM and it is essential to attend all of these.

There are number of assessment elements to be completed, all of which are incorporated across the 10 days; assessment elements are spread throughout the course rather than all being at the end.   There will be some additional work required away from the course to complete some of the assessment tasks.   Assessment elements include a workbook and worksheets, along with a theory exam and assessment of practical skills.

If successful in all the assessment elements, students will be awarded a YMCA Awards Level 4 certificate in Sports Massage Therapy.   This qualification allows entry to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 4 & carries 16 REPs CPD points.

This course may be used to support access toward degree studies related to Sports Therapy and/or Sport and Exercise Sciences.
